A jury has been sworn in at the Central Criminal Court for the trial of a 30-year-old man from Sligo charged with murder. Simon McGinley of Connaughton Road pleaded not guilty to the murder of Eugene Gillespie on September 22, 2012, but admitted manslaughter. He also pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning Mr Gillespie and trespassing to commit robbery at a property on Old Market Street on September 19, 2012. The prosecution indicated the manslaughter plea would not be accepted. A jury of seven women and five men was empanelled for the trial, which is expected to run for two weeks before Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan at the Central Criminal Court.
