Three men have been sentenced for their involvement in a fatal shooting in Co. Kildare in April 2013. At the Central Criminal Court, Darren Wynne was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment for shooting Jamie Lindsay in the face. Wynne had pleaded not guilty to the charge. Quentin Monaghan and James Seery both pleaded guilty to manslaughter during trial. Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan sentenced Monaghan to eight years, with two years suspended, and imposed a concurrent four-year sentence for firearms offences. Seery received seven years, with three years suspended, and a concurrent three-year term for firearms matters. The court heard the deceased was shot at close range with a sawn-off shotgun following a background of mutual threats. In mitigation, the judge noted Monaghan's guilty plea, cooperation with gardaí, and remorse, though acknowledged his reckless actions. For Seery, the court considered his plea, cooperation, youth, clean record, and psychiatric evidence suggesting reduced culpability compared to Monaghan.
