A Roscommon man has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for sexually assaulting his daughter between 2004 and 2006. The man, aged 59, pleaded guilty to sexual assault of the child at the family home. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a two-year sentence with all but six months suspended, having considered the guilty plea, remorse expressed, and the defendant's serious medical condition. The court heard the child was subjected to abuse by multiple family members. Her mother is currently serving a 14-year sentence, with four and a half years suspended, for sexual assault and child cruelty, while a neighbour received 14 years for rape and related sexual offences. Judge Nolan noted the girl is now receiving support from foster carers and declared the man a sex offender. He determined post-release supervision was not necessary.
