A 27-year-old man from County Mayo pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping a woman on 16 May 2015 in a Mayo town. The court heard that the man threw his victim across a laneway to prevent a CCTV camera from capturing the assault. He forced the woman down steps in an aggressive manner before threatening her with a blade and compelling her to engage in sexual acts. Following the incident, he threatened to kill her if she reported the matter. The victim sustained bruising, whiplash injuries, and a bite mark to her lip. She subsequently reported the rape to gardaí. In her victim impact statement, the woman described her fear during the incident and said she would never forgive or forget what occurred. The defence noted the man's early guilty plea and admissions to gardaí. Mr Justice Paul Butler adjourned sentencing to 1 June.
