Michael Kinsella, aged 25 and formerly of Ardkeen, County Cavan, has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment for assaulting a fellow prisoner at Wheatfield Prison on 13 April 2012. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Karen O'Connor heard that Kinsella slashed the victim's face with a weapon, causing injuries requiring nine stitches. Kinsella, who is currently serving a 15-year sentence for manslaughter in relation to the 2011 death of Adil Essahli in Dublin, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. The judge ordered the three-year sentence to run concurrently with his existing sentence, meaning no additional time will be served. The court was informed that Kinsella has engaged in educational and rehabilitative programmes while in custody and is not due for release until 2025.
