A jury at the Central Criminal Court has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict in a murder trial. Keith Brady, aged 30, of Cartron Estate, Sligo had pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of Martin Kivlehan, aged 59, at New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo on 2nd and 3rd August 2015. The Crown rejected the manslaughter plea, and Mr Brady underwent a two-week trial. During proceedings, the jury heard that Mr Kivlehan died from two stab wounds to the neck. Mr Brady admitted inflicting the injuries. The eleven-member jury was asked to determine whether the act constituted murder or manslaughter. After indicating they could not achieve unanimity, and subsequently failing to reach a majority verdict, the jury was discharged. Mr Justice Paul McDermott remanded Mr Brady in custody until 4th December for potential further proceedings.
