Father convicted of raping daughter doesn't accept jury verdict

A 47-year-old man from Co Mayo has been convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court of three counts of rape, five counts of anal rape and six counts of sexual assault against his daughter between 2006 and 2010, when she was aged seven to eleven years. The offences occurred both in Ireland and abroad. During proceedings, the man's legal representative stated that his client rejects the jury's verdict and maintains his innocence. Defence counsel indicated the man intends to lodge an appeal against conviction at the earliest opportunity. The court heard that the victim disclosed the abuse to social workers while in care. The defendant, who has previous convictions in Ireland and abroad, was remanded in custody pending sentencing on 23 April.
