Paradub Limited has brought High Court proceedings seeking to prevent the Shannon Key West Hotel at Rooskey, on the Leitrim-Roscommon border, from being used to accommodate asylum seekers. The company claims it holds an agreement to purchase the 39-room property from owner James Kiernan but alleges he has failed to complete the sale. According to Paradub's case, an option agreement was entered into in 2016 for approximately €600,000, with the option to be exercised by December 2017. When the company sought to proceed in October 2017, it claims Mr Kiernan did not respond to requests for draft contracts. The company subsequently initiated legal proceedings and filed a Lis Pendens against the property. Paradub has learned that plans exist to lease the hotel for housing refugees, which it contends breaches the purchase agreement. The company seeks an injunction restraining Mr Kiernan from entering into any alternative agreements concerning the property. Ms Justice Leonie Reynolds granted permission to serve short notice of proceedings on Thursday and made the matter returnable to the following Tuesday's sitting.
