A man charged with murder in County Sligo will face trial for a third time in November 2019 after his previous trial collapsed at the Central Criminal Court. Keith Brady, of Cartron Estate in Sligo, was tried in connection with the death of Martin Matt Kivlehan at New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo in August 2015. Mr Brady pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. Justice Carmel Stewart discharged the jury after an RTE Prime Time segment aired while jurors were deliberating. The defence barrister argued the programme had undermined the provocation defence, and five jurors subsequently watched the broadcast. Justice Stewart criticised what she termed a "parallel justice system in the court of public opinion" operating without regard to trial proceedings. The new trial is scheduled to commence on 4 November 2019 and is expected to last approximately two weeks.
