A murder trial at the Central Criminal Court has heard that the accused told gardaí he intended to "sort out" the deceased the night before the fatal stabbing outside a shopping centre in Longford. The prosecution outlined its case against a 26-year-old man charged with murdering another man on November 1st, 2016 at Townspark in the town. The accused has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. The prosecutor told the jury that CCTV footage would show the accused concealing himself near the shopping centre before emerging with what the State alleges was a knife as the deceased approached. The victim was stabbed three times and died en route to hospital. The accused has admitted the stabbing when questioned by gardaí. The prosecution contends that the evidence demonstrates intent to kill or cause serious harm. The trial, before Mr Justice Michael White and a jury, is expected to continue for approximately ten days.
