Jury view footage of murder accused chasing deceased with knife

A jury at the Central Criminal Court has viewed CCTV footage showing the accused chasing the deceased while holding a knife shortly before the fatal stabbing. Rihards Lavickis, aged 26, with an address in Longford, is charged with the murder of Akadiusz Czajkowski on 1st November 2016 in Longford town. Lavickis has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. Detective Sergeant Eric Godfrey described the footage to the court, detailing how the accused appeared to run towards the victim with a knife in his raised right hand. The footage did not capture the actual stabbing itself. Retired State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy gave evidence that Mr Czajkowski died from a single stab wound to the chest that penetrated his heart, resulting in substantial internal blood loss. The trial before Mr Justice Michael White continues with a jury of twelve members.
