Murder accused tells victim's brother he is "deeply ashamed"

A 32-year-old man charged with murder at the Central Criminal Court has expressed remorse through his legal counsel. Keith Brady of Cartron Estate, Sligo, pleads not guilty to the murder of 60-year-old Martin Kivlehan on August 2nd or 3rd at New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo, but has admitted manslaughter. During the trial before Mr Justice Alex Owens, Brady's counsel conveyed to the deceased's brother, Christopher Kivlehan, that his client is "deeply ashamed" of the circumstances. The prosecution outlined that the musician suffered two stab wounds to the neck and was significantly intoxicated at the time of death. Evidence indicated the wounds were severe, with one severing major arteries. Friends described the deceased as a talented, well-liked gentleman and accomplished musician. The trial, involving a jury of eight men and four women, continues at the Central Criminal Court.
