A 32-year-old man from Sligo has been convicted of murder at the Central Criminal Court following his third trial for the offence. Keith Brady of Cartron Estate was found guilty of killing Martin Kivlehan at New Apartments, Holborn Street, Sligo, on August 2 or 3, 2015. A jury of eight men and four women reached their verdict in one hour and 25 minutes after a two-week hearing. Brady had previously denied the charge, with his plea to manslaughter rejected by the Director of Public Prosecutions. Two earlier trials resulted in a hung jury and a collapse following media coverage deemed likely to prejudice proceedings. Mr Justice Alex Owens imposed a mandatory life sentence, backdated to November 2016. Evidence indicated Mr Kivlehan sustained two stab wounds to the neck. The prosecution successfully argued that despite Brady's intoxication, he made deliberate decisions before and after the killing, including arranging heroin delivery to the scene.
