Mark Nash, who is serving life sentences for murders committed in Roscommon and Dublin, has failed in a bid for damages at the European Court of Human Rights. The Strasbourg court found Nash's application inadmissible due to delay, ruling that his complaint was lodged more than six months after the final Irish Supreme Court decision. Nash had contended that his right to trial within a reasonable time was breached, citing a twelve-year gap between initial questioning in 1997 and formal charging in 2009 regarding the Grangegorman murders. The Supreme Court had previously dismissed his damages claim in October 2016. Nash was convicted in 2015 of two murders in Dublin and has been serving life sentences since 1998 for two killings in Roscommon in August 1997. He is currently imprisoned at the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise.
