Third man jailed after refusing to stay away from Strokestown farm

A man from Ballina, County Mayo, has been committed to Mountjoy Prison by Justice Leonie Reynolds after declining to provide undertakings to stay away from a property at Falsk, Strokestown, County Roscommon. The commitment follows the earlier jailing of two other men over the same matter. The farm has been subject to court proceedings involving KBC Bank, which obtained possession orders in 2018 following a debt of €431,000 on the property. An injunction required all parties to vacate, but the man and others remained on the premises, bringing contempt of court charges. When asked by the judge whether he would comply with the orders, he declined to answer. The judge stated she had no alternative but to remand him in custody until he purges his contempt. The case will be reviewed the following week. KBC Bank's counsel indicated the bank would accept an undertaking to vacate rather than pursue imprisonment.
