A man from Sligo has been convicted of murder at the Central Criminal Court following the unlawful killing of his wife in April 2018. The court heard that Rafal Karaczyn, aged 35, of Crozon Park, Sligo, had secretly recorded his wife using a concealed camera in the bathroom of their shared home after she indicated she wished to end their relationship. Four videos recovered from electronic devices showed Karaczyn placing recording equipment in the bathroom before his wife entered, then retrieving it afterwards. The footage was dated between November 2017 and March 2018, a period when the couple were residing in separate rooms. The trial judge ruled the recordings inadmissible as evidence before the jury, determining they were not relevant to the central question of intent. Karaczyn was found guilty of the murder of Natalia Karaczyn on 29 April 2018.
