Kevin Lunney abduction trial to proceed at month end

Four men stand charged with the false imprisonment and assault of Quinn Industrial Holdings director Kevin Lunney at Ballinagh, County Cavan on 17 September 2019. The trial at the Special Criminal Court is now scheduled to commence on 31 May following repeated postponements since January. Luke O'Reilly, Darren Redmond, and Alan O'Brien are named defendants. A fourth man cannot be identified for legal reasons. The court heard the 12-week trial will proceed consecutively until the court recess in late July, with potential resumption in September. Justice Tony Hunt dismissed several defence applications seeking adjournment, including challenges relating to data retention legislation and the circumstances of a vehicle fire. Over 50,000 documents require digital processing. The allegations include assault causing serious harm.
