The Special Criminal Court heard evidence on Tuesday concerning a Renault Kangoo van allegedly used in the abduction of businessman Kevin Lunney in September 2019. A car dealer from Drogheda testified that he purchased the van for €400 from a man known only as "David" on October 23, 2019, and that gardaí seized it the following day. Prosecution forensic evidence has indicated Mr Lunney's DNA was found on the van's door, along with DNA matching one of the accused on the driver's seat. Three policing analysts presented charts and maps comparing CCTV footage of the Kangoo travelling between Dublin and Cavan on the date of the alleged offence with mobile phone movements attributed to two defendants. The vehicle was later recovered from a test centre on the Duleek Road near Drogheda and transported to a yard in Castleblayney, County Monaghan. Three men, including a 67-year-old with an address in County Cavan, have pleaded not guilty to false imprisonment and intentionally causing serious harm.
