Van allegedly used in Lunney abduction was parked unlocked on street, trial hears

At the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, evidence was heard that a Renault Kangoo van allegedly used in the abduction of Cavan businessman Kevin Lunney was left unlocked on a Dublin street in October 2019. Members of the National Surveillance Unit deployed a tracking device inside the vehicle while it was parked unattended on Merchant's Road in East Wall. The prosecution alleges the van was used to transport Mr Lunney from Dublin to Cavan on September 17, 2019, the date of his assault. DNA evidence matching Mr Lunney was found inside the vehicle, along with DNA matching one of the accused. Three men have pleaded not guilty to false imprisonment and intentionally causing serious harm. The trial, before a three-judge panel, heard that the van's unlocked status may become the subject of a legal argument.
