A man in his forties has been convicted by the Special Criminal Court of falsely imprisoning and assaulting Kevin Lunney, a director of Quinn Industrial Holdings. The accused, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was tried alongside three co-defendants at the non-jury court in relation to an incident at Drumbrade, County Cavan in September 2019. The three-judge panel found the prosecution had established guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court heard Mr Lunney was abducted near his home, taken to a horse box, and subjected to sustained violence including assault with a wooden bat, threats, and deliberate injury. He was subsequently abandoned on a country road where he was discovered. Three fellow defendants remain awaiting the completion of the court's judgement. Justice Tony Hunt, sitting with judges David McHugh and Gerard Griffin, presided over the trial.
