Three men have been convicted of falsely imprisoning, beating and mutilating Kevin Lunney, director of Quinn Industrial Holdings, at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin. A fourth man was acquitted. Mr Justice Tony Hunt found Alan O'Brien and Darren Redmond, both from East Wall in Dublin, and a man identified as YZ guilty of the offences committed at Drumbrade, Ballinagh, County Cavan on 17 September 2019. Luke O'Reilly, from Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy, County Cavan, was found not guilty. Mr Lunney was abducted near his home, held in a container, beaten with a wooden bat, doused in bleach, and had letters carved into his chest with a Stanley knife. The judge accepted Mr Lunney's evidence as reliable and described him as a most impressive witness. CCTV footage, DNA evidence and phone records established the involvement of the three convicted men. The judge found the offences were organised by Cyril McGuinness, now deceased. Sentencing is scheduled for 22 October.
