The Special Criminal Court viewed CCTV footage on 25 October as part of the trial of Gerard Hutch, charged with the murder of Kinahan Cartel member David Byrne at the Regency Hotel on 5 February 2016. The State presented evidence showing what prosecutors allege are journeys by Hutch and former Sinn Féin councillor Jonathan Dowdall to Northern Ireland on 20 February and 7 March 2016, weeks after the fatal shooting. Garda Michelle Purcell testified regarding footage from a service station in County Armagh, a shopping centre in Newry, and a hotel in Belfast. The court also heard evidence of recordings made during the 7 March journey in which the accused allegedly discussed the Regency attack and referenced "three yokes" allegedly given to republicans as a present, which prosecutors say refers to assault rifles used in the killing. Additional footage showed convicted IRA member Shane Rowan, imprisoned for possession of those assault rifles, travelling with what the prosecution alleges was Patrick Hutch Senior. Dowdall, who pleaded guilty to facilitating the gang, is now a State witness.
