At the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, a man accused of participating in the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in February 2016 told gardaí he received an invitation to the boxing weigh-in from former professional boxer Matthew Macklin, the court heard. Jason Bonney, aged 51, from Drumnigh Wood in Portmarnock, denies participating in or contributing to the murder by providing access to motor vehicles. Detective Sergeant Padraig O'Toole gave evidence that a BMWX5 jeep registered to Bonney Construction was tracked in convoy with other vehicles to St Vincent's GAA Club following the shooting. In interview, Mr Bonney stated he was working on his house at the time and expressed shock at being informed his life was under threat. He said he could not understand why the Kinahan Organised Crime Group would view him as a threat. The trial, involving three defendants including Gerard Hutch, continues before three judges.
