Strokestown eviction farm owner also had 170 acres, 'one or two' properties, trial hears

At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, a trial has heard that Michael McGann, whose Roscommon farm at Falsk was repossessed by KBC Bank in December 2018, held approximately 170 acres of additional land and possibly one or two further residential properties. An authorised officer of the bank outlined how legal proceedings commenced in 2009, with a High Court possession order granted in October 2012. Two execution orders subsequently lapsed before a third was issued in 2018 and used to execute the repossession on 11 December. Four men have pleaded not guilty to 17 charges each following an alleged attack on security personnel five days later. A security guard testified that armed men, numbering approximately 30 and some wearing balaclavas, arrived at the property around 5am on 16 December 2018 and assaulted four security guards with batons, sticks, crowbars, and other weapons. Each accused faces charges including false imprisonment, assault causing harm, aggravated burglary, arson, violent disorder, and robbery.
