A Spanish national has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to conspiracy to smuggle controlled drugs valued in excess of €13,000 into Ireland. Juan Antonio Gallardo Barroso, aged 56, admitted the charge relating to an alleged importation between late February and mid-March 2024. The non-jury court, presided over by Ms Justice Karen O'Connor, adjourned sentencing to July 21st. Three other defendants from Spain and Serbia are also listed for sentencing on that date following guilty pleas to similar conspiracy charges. A further six men, including one with an address in Aughnacloy, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, remain charged in connection with the case. The arrests followed garda operations in March 2024 near Skibbereen in west Cork, during which a jeep, camper van, articulated truck, and rigid inflatable boat were seized.
