Jonathan Dowdall, a former Sinn Féin councillor, pleaded guilty to facilitating the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in February 2016 by making a hotel room available to the Hutch gang. He has made a statement to gardaí implicating others in the murder and is being assessed for the Witness Protection Program. A risk assessment indicated a 'severe' risk to Dowdall and his family.
