Summary

In January 2017, a 19‑year‑old kick‑boxing trainee, Jordan Montgomery, was jailed after he kicked an elderly man, Sean Sheehy Snr, in the head, leaving the victim with a brain injury. The incident occurred on Sallynoggin Road when the Sheehys were returning home from a pub. A verbal altercation began after Sheehy Jr. joked about Montgomery's beard, comparing him to Conor McGregor. Montgomery, who was topless and wearing a cast on his arm, struck the victim's head from a standing position. Gardaí found the victim lying in a laneway with blood. Montgomery pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Montgomery received a two‑year sentence with the final 15 months suspended, under strict conditions, and was ordered to pay €720 to the victim.
