Witness tells trial she is "100% certain" about account of murder accused's violent attack
Summary
During the Central Criminal Court trial of Vesel Jahiri, a witness named Joan Broe testified that she was 100 per cent certain of seeing Jahiri chase his former partner Anna Finnegan, bring her to the ground and punch her on the right side. Broe, who was walking her dog at 8.30pm on 21 September 2012, heard Finnegan screaming for help and later described Jahiri's pursuit and violent actions. She stated that she had not been able to intervene and expressed remorse for not doing more. Broe also provided a typed statement to the court and a separate statement to Detective Garda Brendan O'Hora, adding that Jahiri landed at least four blows to Finnegan's right side. The defence counsel challenged the accuracy of this detail, but Broe maintained her certainty. The trial continues before Mr Justice Paul Coffey and a jury. Vesel Jahiri pleaded not guilty.
