"Next time you are in Darndale, you are dead": no jail for youth who threw "missiles" at gardai

In a 2015 incident in Darndale, Dublin, 20‑year‑old Glen Lieghio, part of a group of 20‑30 youths, threw stones, bottles and other objects at Gardaí who were attempting to investigate a dangerously driven stolen car. Lieghio addressed one officer by name, threatening, "Next time you are in Darndale, you are dead." A rock thrown at another Garda struck his mobile phone. Lieghio was arrested a few days later and pleaded guilty to violent disorder and criminal damage. He had no prior convictions. Judge Karen O'Connor, noting the extreme violence and the lack of injuries, found the behaviour unacceptable but also acknowledged Lieghio's remorse and acceptance of responsibility.
