Summary

In July 2017, Judge Melanie Greally sentenced 26‑year‑old Munir Ghariani to four years in prison, back‑dating the term to 19 May 2016 after he had been given a partly suspended sentence for robbery in May 2017. Ghariani had admitted attacking a woman and robbing her phone on Granville Road, Cabinteely, on 21 March 2016. He had previously pleaded guilty to robbery and was warned that the three‑year balance of his sentence could be activated if he breached any conditions. In June 2017, his probation officer, Michelle Richardson, reported that he had failed to attend two required meetings and had behaved inappropriately, including urinating outside a glass building in front of female staff on 7 July. Garda Padraig Nagle testified that Ghariani had attracted police attention five times since May 2016, including incidents of staring at a 17‑year‑old girl, walking with trousers down, and allegedly stealing a mobile phone.
