Jury views garden shears used in alleged murder

Summary

In a Dublin murder trial, the jury saw half of a garden shears alleged to have stabbed Wesley Mooney to death outside his home. Garda Conor Mallon identified the weapon during a search of St Joseph's Park after Mooney's death. He described it as a half shears with a yellow stem and black handle. A forensic scientist found blood on the rusted blade and on the accused's left runner, and DNA matched Mooney. The scientist also examined a watch but found no evidence. The trial, presided over by Mr Justice Paul Butler, continues with a jury of ten men and two women. Martin Keenan, 20, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mooney, 33, which occurred on 5 June 2016. The case remains in the Central Criminal Court.
