Mum "duped" into allowing heroin and crack preparation at her home

Summary

Secora Kavanagh, 50, of North Great Charles Street, pleaded guilty to permitting the preparation of 178 g of heroin and 2 g of cocaine at her home on 11 March 2017. She had let her boyfriend's cousin stay at the flat while she was on holiday. The cousin had called her minutes before Gardaí arrived, telling her to move the drugs. Kavanagh told officers she had suspicions but had turned a blind eye. Garda Emmett Brannigan said the police obtained a search warrant after witnessing a drug transaction on the street. During the search officers found a bag of heroin and cocaine in a navy bag under the stairs, a tick list and other evidence. Kavanagh had no previous convictions. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a two‑year suspended sentence, suspended for two years.
