Summary
Garrett Hanley, 33, of Oliver Bond House, Dublin, was sentenced by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to four and a half years' imprisonment for possessing heroin worth €77,301 and cannabis worth €2,100 at his home on 12 May 2015. The heroin was discovered in a gas main after a Garda surveillance operation, while the cannabis was found in a wheelie bin. Hanley had five prior convictions, including a five‑year term for possessing €292,707 worth of heroin in August 2010, from which he was released in February 2013. Judge Karen O'Connor suspended the final 18 months of the sentence, citing that Hanley had not attracted Garda attention since his arrest and that he had held the drugs to repay a debt.
