Arsonist gets 10 years for attack on family's apartment
Summary
Ian O'Connor, 29, was sentenced by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to ten years' imprisonment for two arsons. He pleaded guilty to setting fire to Tyrone Place, Inchicore on 18 September 2017, where a seven‑year‑old's hearing aid melted, and to a later arson at Ailesbury Road on 15 October 2017. Judge Melanie Greally imposed a twelve‑year term for the first arson, suspending the final two years on the condition of peace‑keeping and probation engagement, and a six‑year term for the second arson, to run concurrently. All sentences were back‑dated to 9 March 2018. O'Connor admitted pouring petrol into a letterbox and front door, claiming debt‑related pressure and that he believed the house was empty. He had prior convictions for drunk driving and was unmarried with one child.
