Summary
A 71‑year‑old retired Dublin council worker was sentenced to six years' imprisonment for repeatedly sexually abusing his granddaughter. The abuse began when she was about nine and continued for four years, with the perpetrator bringing her to his bedroom to play cards before molesting her. When she tried to escape, he threatened her, forced her to strip, pinned her down, and in one incident threw her across the bed, causing her to hit her head on the headboard. He then assaulted her again. The attacks occurred roughly once a week, with Judge Martin Nolan estimating more than 150 incidents. The abuse ceased after the victim's aunt discovered him with her.
