Creche worker goes on trial accused of sexually assaulting four girls
Summary
In a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court trial, a 29‑year‑old childcare worker, whose name is withheld, pleaded not guilty to 23 counts of sexually assaulting four girls aged 5‑8 at a Leinster creche between February 2015 and December 2016. The alleged assaults occurred in a bathroom, an after‑school room and on the creche's bus. The creche owner reported the allegations to parents in December 2016, after a child had confided in another. Parents notified Gardaí, and an investigation began. CCTV footage from the creche and interviews with the girls, conducted in January 2017, will be presented. The worker, who began working in 2013 and was due to be dismissed in 2016 for incomplete childcare training, was suspended pending the investigation. The trial is expected to last three weeks. The jury will hear the worker's denials and the presumption of innocence. The case is ongoing.
