Jury continue deliberating in creche abuse trial
Summary
The jury in the trial of a 29‑year‑old child‑care worker accused of sexually assaulting four girls at a Leinster crèche will continue deliberations tomorrow. The defendant has pleaded not guilty to 23 counts of assaulting the girls, who were aged five to eight, between August 2014 and December 2016. Allegations state he touched the children's genitals over their clothes on several occasions in the crèche building and on the crèche bus. The jury, composed of seven men and five women, began deliberations on Wednesday afternoon and continued on Thursday, having deliberated for a little over seven hours. Judge Elma Sheahan instructed jurors to suspend deliberations and return tomorrow morning. During the trial, which began last month at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, the jury viewed DVD recordings of interviews with the four child complainants from January 2017 and cross‑examined the children via video‑link.
