Summary
In a Central Criminal Court trial, a 33‑year‑old Westmeath man faces a single rape charge. The alleged victim, a 25‑year‑old woman, testified that she had set clear boundaries before returning to the defendant's home after a night out. She described drinking Prosecco, beer, and shots of Sambucca at a GAA club, then kissing the defendant. After about 25 minutes she decided to leave, but the defendant invited her to stay. She accepted, stating she only wanted to sleep there and repeated that she did not want to engage in any sexual activity. The defendant allegedly forced her to remove her clothing, then anally raped her for about two minutes. She denied any consent. The case is ongoing before Mr Justice Paul McDermott and a jury.
