Summary
Kevin Conway, 34, of Carpenterstown, Dublin, was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography on July 30, 2016, and one count each of sexually exploiting a child, producing child pornography, and distributing it in June and July 2013. The court heard that Conway allegedly posed as a 17-year-old girl on Skype to exploit a 12-year-old victim, encouraging her to perform sexual acts while recording her without her knowledge. He subsequently shared a video of the girl with another user. Gardaí discovered 403 images and 12 videos of child pornography at his home, many in the most severe category. Judge Pauline Codd noted that the possession was not a victimless crime and that Conway deliberately used a female profile to attract children. While accepting his remorse, the judge handed down a three-year sentence, suspending the final two years on a number of conditions. Conway has no previous convictions and lost his employment following the case.
