'Complete eejit' impersonated garda and attacked pedestrian
Summary
During the first lockdown in April 2020, 20‑year‑old Edward Illes, a passenger in a car with flashing blue lights, pretended to be a Garda and attacked a pedestrian on Luttrellstown Road, Castleknock. Illes demanded identification, shouted at the man, and after the man called emergency services, he ran at him, punched him five or six times, and tried to take his phone before fleeing. He also approached other pedestrians, claiming to be a Garda, and was involved in a bus incident where he attempted to inspect the bus. Illes pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and impersonating a Garda. He received a fully suspended two‑year sentence, with strict conditions including payment of €1,000 and an additional €4,000 within one year.
