Man pleads not guilty by reason of insanity to woman's murder
Summary
Valerijs Leitons, 25, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of Skaidrite Valdgeima on 26 June 2019 at Binary Hub, Bonham Street, Dublin 8. He appeared in the Central Criminal Court wearing a dark grey suit and a white respirator mask, with a Russian interpreter beside him. The court registrar asked how he was pleading; Leitons answered, "Not guilty, by reason of insanity." A jury of five women and seven men was sworn in, and the trial is scheduled to begin before Mr Justice Paul Burns on 30 September, expected to last three or four days.
