Summary

Philip Yeboah, 25, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Gardaí discovered 210 videos and 110 images of child abuse material linked to Yeboah's email, phone, and screen address, with 80 videos and 45 images deemed explicit involving children aged 7 to 15. Yeboah admitted receiving images via two websites and participating in chats and groups that shared links. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in 2014 and cooperated fully with Gardaí. The Probation Service recommended continued engagement, and Judge Melanie Greally acknowledged Yeboah's cooperation and vulnerability. Consequently, she imposed a 16‑month suspended sentence, requiring Yeboah to remain under Probation Service supervision for the full period, with no custodial term imposed. The case remains at the sentencing stage.

Charges: possession of child pornography on February 2, 2018 (Admitted)

Plea: Guilty

Outcome: Garda Brian O'Neill told Tony McGillicuddy BL, prosecuting, at a sentence hearing last July, that gardaí were alerted to the fact that three videos had been uploaded to a site on March 12, 2017, by a user who had the same email address, phone number and screen address as Yeboah. Judge Greally imposed a sentence of 16 months which she suspended in full on strict conditions including that Yeboah engage with the Probation Service for those 16 months.; Judge Melanie Greally acknowledged that the Probation Service had recommended that Yeboah continues to engage with them and adjourned the case to allow for that. "Very young children are abused and exploited to produce this material," Judge Greally said, before adding that it was up to Yeboah if he co-operates or not.
