"Heavy gambler" jailed for five years over cannabis haul

Summary

Jody Vij, 35, was sentenced by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to five years' imprisonment after pleading guilty to possessing cannabis for sale or supply. The offence occurred on 17 May 2008 when gardaí stopped a vehicle in Dalkey, Co. Dublin, and found a bag containing 20 packages of cannabis worth €117,912. Garda Val Russell reported that confidential information about a drug delivery led to the stop. Additional cannabis was seized at a house on Park Avenue, Glenageary, and at Castleforbes Business Park, where Vij rented rehearsal space. Betting slips and a Star newspaper with lists of names and amounts were also found.
