Summary
Hussein Shahrohki, a 67-year-old carpet maker from Ballyogan Green, Carrickmines, Dublin, was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for having drugs. The court heard that Shahrohki was involved in a car crash on Leinster Road in Rathmines on April 19, 2012. Defence counsel James Dwyer BL submitted that Shahrohki was a family man who smoked two €20 bags of heroin weekly and stated he would not sell the substance due to his religious beliefs. Dwyer also highlighted the defendant's positive community standing and noted that opiate use is more permissive in Persian culture. Judge Patricia Ryan acknowledged the serious nature of the crime and the quantity of drugs involved, while also considering the accused's guilty plea. Consequently, Shahrohki was given a one-year suspended sentence. The matter was finalised with this sentence.
