Garda surveillance trial to resume tomorrow
Summary
The Special Criminal Court adjourned the trial of Corey Mulhall, 41, who admitted taking photographs of the Special Detective Unit's Harcourt Square headquarters in September 2012 after booking a room at the Harcourt Hotel under a false name. Mulhall said a man offered him money to photograph a specified Garda for an unnamed client who was in dispute with the police. He claimed the man was a Garda informer who would set him up on a fake charge. The court heard evidence from Gardaí involved in the hotel search and from a Garda Chief Superintendent who said Mulhall was a member of the IRA on 26 September 2012. The trial will resume tomorrow, with the defence having requested that the court proceed despite a document offering an alternative explanation for Mulhall's arrest not being disclosed to the defence.
