Repeat offender caught with false passports avoids jail
Summary
Deji Oshinowo, 51, of Myrtle Square, Baldoyle, Dublin 13, was convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on three counts of possession of false passports. He had seven prior convictions, including for custody of false instruments, the most recent in 2012. An investigation by Gardaí on 21 June 2017 found three passports – two from the Republic of Benin and one from South Africa – in an upstairs room of his residence; none bore his picture and were later confirmed false. Oshinowo was arrested and interviewed, and the court noted his cooperation. Judge Patricia Ryan sentenced him to two and a half years, suspending the term under a number of conditions. Oshinowo, married with three children, is currently completing courses and has requested leniency, while his progress toward citizenship remains paused due to the criminal proceedings.
