Drug addict gets five-year sentence for service station robbery
Summary
Noel Kinsella, 41, a Dublin drug addict with 98 prior convictions, was sentenced to five years in prison for robbing €820 in cash and a €12 bottle of vodka from an Applegreen service station on Stillorgan Road on 24 June 2014. He also pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle at Kilmacud Road the same day. Kinsella and a now-deceased accomplice stole a car earlier that day, used it to flee the robbery, and were apprehended shortly after near a school. The judge, after hearing that Kinsella had been a long‑term drug addict who committed crimes to support his habit, imposed a five‑year term with the final 18 months suspended. This sentence will run consecutively to a reactivated two‑year suspended sentence he is currently serving for another offence. The court noted that Kinsella had had a "far from ideal start in life" and was now free of drugs.
