Summary
A man who helped produce child pornography involving his own daughter was originally sentenced to five years' imprisonment, with the last 12 months suspended, by Judge Sarah Berkeley on 31 July 2014. The offence involved sexual exploitation and knowingly facilitating child pornography in Dublin between 2009 and 2010. The man pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. On appeal, the Court of Appeal found that the trial judge had not given adequate weight to mitigating factors and had erred in not discounting the man's remorse. The mother of the child was sentenced separately to 36 months, with the last 20 months suspended, after pleading guilty.
