Summary
In a murder trial on 7 July 2016, Andrzej Wawrzyniak, 38, a former Polish paratrooper, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Jacek Kozakiewicz, 44, at a derelict pub on Dublin's North Wall Quay on 26 February 2014. Wawrzyniak admitted to stabbing Kozakiewicz after a fight, claiming he had killed a man. He also pleaded guilty to a second charge of assault causing harm to Filip Talaj at the same location and date. Garda Seamus Kelly, responding to a Luas driver's call about a blood‑stained tram passenger, met Wawrzyniak who led the officers to a manhole that opened into the abandoned pub, where the body was found. The trial, presided over by Justice Robert Eagar with a jury of nine men and three women, was set to continue the following day.
