The Labour Court upheld Carlow Institute Of Technology’s appeal and rejected a recommendation to restore a lecturer’s allowance pending an investigation. The decision was signed on 26 May 2000. The dispute concerned a College Lecturer 1 allowance paid since 1979. The worker said it was discontinued in October 1998 without consultation and sought its restoration, as well as promotion-related pay and benefits. The Institute said revised grade arrangements had compensated the worker and that the grievance had been addressed through an agreed national process. The Court found that the dispute had been handled through that process and that the Institute had implemented the National Interpretation Group’s agreement.
